Fun Facts: Carmine State Bank History

On July 1, 1907, 26 citizens, with a combined investment of $10,000 in Capital Stock, organized the Carmine State Bank.  The bank received its charter from the State Banking Department on July 7, 1927, making the bank the 269th State Member Bank (of these member banks, only 50 remind in continuous operation today). The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) granted membership to the Carmine State Bank on December 23, 1969.

Carmine State Bank has not been without its share of drama.  on November 9, 1932, the bank had its first and only successful robbery. One thousand dollars was taken by two men, Hamilton and O’Dair, the former once being a member of the Clyde Barrow-Bonnie Parker gang.  Two months later a Mr. Addington attempted to rob the bank. He was shot and killed by the assistant cashier, Mr. W.A. Plueckhahn. For his efforts, Mr. Plueckhahn received a five thousand dollar reward.

For more than eighty years, the corner of Centennial and Sylvan street was home to Carmine State Bank. During that time, the bank has enjoyed a tremendous amount of support and growth from the community and stockholders. So much so that the directors began planning for a modern banking facility to keep pace with this growth. Construction on this new facility was completely in July of 1987, and on August 17, 1987, Carmine State Bank began operations at its new facility.

The Bank Directors, Staff and Employees look forward to serving its customers and the community for the next 80 years at its new location."
